Have you ever felt like this?

You’ve got a good job. You’ve got wonderful friends and family. Yet with all that, you feel an emotional disconnect in your life? There is something in your heart you are yearning to do but something keeps holding you back?

We are all bound by the neural grooves in our brains that respond on autopilot most of the day. Think about it. The things we do each day are not conscious choices. From brushing our teeth to driving to work, we’re aware but not actually choosing our next steps. Our brains have done these same things so often, it just pushes the autopilot button and off we go.

The same autopilot experience happens with words and ideas. When I was 10 years old, I realized I was being compared to my older brother. And in my dad’s eyes at least, I fell short. That set me on a path to avoid situations where I felt I would be compared. It created a deep neural groove that responded by running the other way any time a situation or opportunity presented itself in which I would have to risk being critiqued or compared. I desperately needed to be sure I would succeed at whatever task I undertook. And, if I didn’t feel sure, I opted for what was comfortable. I made the safe choice.

One day, I realized I could no longer turn my back on my real passion in life. After spending too many days with my head in my hands asking myself, “Why? Why can’t you do what you know you love?” I stretched my comfort zone and give myself a chance to wake up every day loving what I do. There were many steps on this journey to changing my automatic response. However, some of the key steps included re-discovering my core values, my strengths, and my passion. I realized that some of the most energizing times in my life were when I had allowed myself to make choices based on those three ingredients. On this journey, I created new neural grooves that respond to that “I might make a mistake” voice with a nod of the head and a will to move ahead anyway. It’s been incredible.

Is there something you’ve dreamed of doing but that voice in your head keeps putting on the brakes? You can train your brain to make new choices. That small voice that yearns for something you’ve put on hold is ready to take center stage. You have a unique “is-ness” that is your most essential self. When you honor your “is-ness”, you will feel energized every day.

Set yourself on the path to re-ignite your passion and create the life you desire. The world needs your “is-ness” and you will experience energy every day when you are being true to yourself.
